Solly Moeng
DonValley Reputation Managers, South Africa
Solly Moeng is a widely experienced and recognised brand reputation strategist, media trainer, whisperer, columnist, current affairs commentator, and part-time lecturer. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Media Studies with the University of Cape Town.
Moeng’s professional trajectory began in Canada, where he was marketing manager for South African Tourism, based in Toronto, then country manager in the USA, based in New York. He is also a former Head of Corporate Communications & PR at Woolworths, a position that saw him lead a team of highly experienced and knowledgeable individuals in protecting and enhancing this high-end retail brands. Reporting to him were PR managers in the Woolworths Food, Woolworths Clothing, and Woolworths General Merchandise.

Moeng has also lived and worked in France and, more recently, Switzerland, where continues to lecture on a part-time basis on the Digital Campus of the Geneva, Switzerland-based, EU Business School.
Moeng founded DonValley Reputation Managers in 2006 and, in 2017, the Africa Brand Summit which serves as a platform to assess Africa as a destination brand to find ways in which it can be strengthened to maximise its appeal.
Solly is MD of DonValley Reputation Managers.
Moeng is part of a team of experts commissioned to develop a Tourism, Trade, and Investment marketing strategy for the Limpopo Tourism Authority.
In 2025, Moeng facilitated multinational, multicultural, panel discussions at the G20 Interfaith Forum, one of the lead tributary events in the build-up to the South Africa-hosted G20 Summit in November 2025. He also addressed the Africa Branch of South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO)’s strategic planning session on the powers of and approaches to soft diplomacy.
As former Vice-President of the Davos, Switzerland, based World Communication Forum Association (WCFA), Moeng has spoken at events in Moscow and Ekaterinburg (Russia), Lusaka (Zambia), Mumbai (India), Davos, Geneva, and Bulle (Switzerland), and Yerevan (Armenia).

Prof Karen Keddy
University of Pretoria, South Africa
Prof Keddy is a medical microbiologist with a PhD in Public Health. Prof Keddy set up the national reference centre for bacterial enteric pathogens, the Centre for Enteric Diseases (CED) of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, in South Africa in 1997 after spending three months at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the USA as a guest researcher.
Prof Keddy has over 150 peer-reviewed publications, written subject-specific book chapters and contributed to WHO/FAO Expert reports.
Currently, Prof Keddy is a co-chair of the Country Support Task Force of FERG2 and member of the Parasitic Diseases Task Force.

Prof Keddy initiated the laboratory-based surveillance programme for bacterial enteric pathogens in South Africa, which included characterization of foodborne zoonoses. Prof Keddy has over 25 years’ experience in foodborne diseases, One Health, and antimicrobial resistance. Prof Keddy has supervised post-graduate students at MSc and PhD level at the University of Pretoria, University of the Witwatersrand and University of Cape Town, including veterinary students.
At the World Health Organization, Prof Keddy was a member of Global Foodborne Diseases Network, WHO Foodborne Diseases Epidemiology Reference Group (FERG1), and contributed to other international expert committees on matters relating to waterborne and foodborne disease. Prof Keddy was principal investigator on projects in sub-Saharan Africa funded by international NGOs, and external governmental organizations. Prof Keddy has run numerous training programmes on enteric pathogens in South Africa and SSA and consulted to the FAO on whole genome sequencing (WGS) for foodborne pathogens and Shiga-toxigenic E. coli.
Prof Keddy was an ad hoc attendee of the annual European Centers for Disease Control (ECDC) Food and Waterborne Diseases meeting. Nationally, Prof Keddy has consulted to National Department of Agriculture, Department of Health and acted as an advisor on the National Climate Change Response including National Employment Vulnerability Assessment (NEVA) study. More recently Prof Keddy has operated as an independent consultant, contributing to research publications on tuberculosis at the MRC-TB platform, the South African Global Fund Application for HIV and Tuberculosis and consulted to private biotechnology firms on expanding diagnostic capacity, including food testing and animal health. Prof Keddy has over 150 peer-reviewed publications, written subject-specific book chapters and contributed to WHO/FAO Expert reports.
She served as a technical expert on the WHO Technical Advisory Group for Vaccines against Antimicrobial Resistance (TAG-AMR), TAG for Salmonella vaccines (TAG-SV) at WHO and the Target Product Profile Development Group for Typhoid Fever.
Prof Keddy received an ICEID Leadership Award in August 2015, at the International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases meeting in Atlanta, GA, USA.

Dr Wayne Anderson
Food Safety Authority of Ireland, Ireland
Dr Wayne Anderson joined the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) in 1999 from the food industry and is Director of Food Science and Standards with responsibility for food safety risk assessment and regulatory science. He is also an adjunct professor with University College Dublin (UCD) and University College Cork (UCC).
He previously served 10 years with Unilever research and a year as technical manager with Leitrim Foods.

He holds a primary degree in biochemistry and a Ph.D. in predictive food microbiology. He is a member of the UK expert Advisory Committee for the Microbiology Safety of Food (ACMSF) and has also worked with WHO/FAO on several expert consultations.
Wayne is also a member of the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Foods (ICMSF), a fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology Ireland (IFSTI) and a fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology UK (IFST).

De Wet Ferreira
D&S Forensic Investigations, South Africa
De Wet commenced full-time employment as an investigator within the Department of Defence, South African Air Force Police, investigating and identifying crime and specializing fraud and corruption investigations.
His postgraduate professional experience was enhanced by being appointed as a specialized investigator within the SA Air Force Specialized Investigation Branch, and later as a senior investigator within the Military Police Specialized Investigation Branch.

De Wet was thereafter employed as the Security Manager within Aveng Grinaker-LTA Mining and focused his experience and education on Security-related matters, and the investigation of Fraud and Corruption for the Aveng Grinaker-LTA Operating Group.
These tenures have provided him with the opportunity of expanding his proficiencies to include financial related investigations, risk and compliance, Law, identifying and verifying financial irregularities such as process flaws, fraud and corruption. These investigations conducted include court driven investigations with the aim to prosecute, discipline and to institute civil claims against those who caused losses to his employer, ultimately implementing corrective measures and procedures to proactively prevent, detect and combat fraud and other related financial irregularities.
De Wet is experienced in conducting disciplinary enquiries, testifying in criminal court and presenting evidence in disciplinary enquiries. De Wet further has the necessary experience and expertise in instituting civil litigation to recover lost or stolen funds for his employer.
He manages a very successful and well know private Forensic Investigation company in SA, and for the past 10 years worked in all sectors, both private and public. The company offers and end to end Fraud detection, prevention and investigation capability and various other related functions such as training, research and building AI programs as fraud preventions tools.
De Wet holds a M-Tech (Master’s) degree, B-Tech Forensic Investigation (Hon) degree, Adv, Cert. Fraud Examination and is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), and is currently finalizing his PHD in Forensic Investigation with the study’s focusing on the utilization of voice biometrics in the investigation and prosecution process in SA.
De Wet is very well known in the Forensic industry and currently serves as a Board and Exco member of the ACFESA since 2012 till 2016, and was recently re-appointed from 2019 and is currently the Past President of the ACFE SA Chapter, previously the Chair of the Pretoria Regional Committee and Chair of the Forensic Standards Committee for the past 2 years.

Shannon Russouw

Shannon Russouw holds a Master’s degree in Food Science from Stellenbosch University and is currently Head of Commercial Operations at FACTS, where she oversees client strategy and drives the development of products and services aligned to industry needs.
She has focused experience in food fraud, including incident scanning, trend monitoring, and advising on analytical testing approaches across high-risk categories including honey, meat, fish, oils, and herbs and spices.

Warren Miller
Tsebo Catering Solutions, South Africa
Warren Miller is a senior Food Safety and SHEQ Executive with over 24 years of experience across food services, mining, explosives, manufacturing, and other high‑risk operational environments.
He holds a BA in Environmental Management and currently serves as National SHEQ Manager and EXCO member at Tsebo Catering Solutions, where he led the organisation to achieve ISO 22000 certification. Warren is recognised for leveraging innovation and technology to strengthen risk‑based food safety leadership and for building sustainable, high‑performance safety cultures at scale.

Dr Harris Steinman
FACTS, South Africa
Dr Harris Steinman is the director of FACTS and a medical doctor with specialist expertise in food allergies and allergen sensitisation. He has received a variety of research awards and has authored several allergen reference books, chapters to key food science reference texts, and articles in scientific journals. He has been the Allergy Society of South Africa (ALLSA) representative on the South African Department of Health’s Food Advisory Legislative Group (FLAG) since its inception.

Dr Peter McClure
Visiting Professor Leeds University, United Kingdom
Peter McClure studied Microbiology at Cardiff University for his degree and PhD and then joined the Institute of Food Research, in the UK, to work in the areas of predictive modelling and microbiological food safety. He worked for Unilever for over 20 years, most recently in the Safety and Environmental Assurance Centre, as the Science Lead for Microbiological Safety.
In 2014, he joined Mondelēz International as the section manager for Food Safety for Europe and moved into the role of Principal Scientist – Microbiology.

Peter coordinated the development of microbiological safety-related programs across the regions and provided support to various R&D projects needing support on safety and to MDLZ sites for issues related to micro safety. He retired from Mondelēz International in 2022.
Peter is a member of the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Foods (ICMSF), and former member of the Advisory Committee on the Microbiological Safety of Food in the UK, is a co-editor of several books on Foodborne Pathogens, and is a visiting professor at Leeds University in the UK.

Prof Michelle Danyluk

Dr. Michelle Danyluk is a Professor and Extension Specialist of Food Safety and Microbiology at the University of Florida (UF). Michelle’s research and extension programs focus on microbial food safety and quality, emphasizing the microbiology of fresh fruits and vegetables. Her primary research focuses on bacterial pathogens in produce, including production, packing and processing environments, their movement and mitigation within these environments, and the subsequent implications for public health

Over her career, she has published more than 100 peer reviewed publications in scientific journals. Michelle’s extension program includes teaching programs related to FSMA, HACCP, GAPs and other food safety programs.
She is a Past President of the International Association for Food Protection, a member of the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Food (ICMSF), and one of the leads of the Southern Center for FSMA training.

Dr Tom Ross
University of Tasmania, Australia
Tom Ross is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Tasmania, having retired after 30 years of teaching and research in food microbiology. His research involves the development of mathematical models and computer software to describe and predict the growth and death of bacteria in foods. These technologies are widely used by the food industry and Australian and New Zealand government agencies to improve microbial food safety and shelf life. Tom has (co)supervised over 35 PhD students to successful completion.

Tom has written over 170 peer-reviewed scientific papers and 20 book chapters on microbial behaviour in foods. He has been a member of numerous expert consultations on food safety risk assessment and risk management convened by the Australian government and industry organisations and the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization and World Health Organization.
He was appointed to permanent membership of the International Commission on Microbiological Specifications for Foods (ICMSF) in 2007 and to the Executive Board of the International Committee on Food Microbiology and Hygiene (ICMFH) in 2017.
Through his work with ICMSF he has expertise in designing and assessing the efficacy of microbiological sampling plans for foods.

Dr Darrell Donahue
Montana State University, USA
Dr. Donahue became the Regional Coordinator of Western SARE on 01 September 2025. SARE is headquartered at Montana State University, where he leads efforts in the Western U.S., including the 17 states and protectorates, in securing grants to support innovative Sustainable Agriculture practices while increasing the safety of our food supply. Prior Dr Donahue was Professor, Dean and Director of the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design at West Virginia University, USA from 2020-2025.

Darrell began his academic career in 1995 at the University of Maine and was there for 17 years becoming professor of chemical engineering and associate director of the Forest Bioproducts Research Institute and was active with the Maine Water Research Institute.
Prior to UMaine he was a process engineer with a private company for several years between his BS and PhD degrees. He received his BS, MS and PhD from North Carolina State University.
Over his career he has applied his statistics, modelling, and simulation expertise to food safety issues related to chemical and microbial risk assessment.
He was named an American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow in 2007-08 at the Department of Homeland Security focusing on security and health affairs related to the food supply, and consults with the U.S. government on security issues related to risk assessment.
He has served on three National Academy of Science (NAS) and international panels addressing food safety. He is an outdoors person; growing up on a farm gave him a unique perspective of understanding and protecting our food supply and he gained an important respect for stewardship of the outdoors.

Queen Vhulahani-Munyai

Queen Munyai is the Chief Executive Officer of the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO), where she draws on her extensive expertise in financial management, corporate governance, and consumer affairs to champion consumer rights in South Africa.
She holds an MBA from the University of South Wales and a BCom in Financial Accounting from the University of Pretoria, as well as postgraduate certifications in Taxation, Forensic Auditing, and Commercial & Contract Law.

A respected voice in her field, Queen is a sought-after speaker – both locally and internationally – on consumer rights and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and a frequent guest speaker at academic and leadership conferences.
She is a member of the International Ombuds Association (IOA), and tirelessly campaigns for the broader application of the ARD process as a viable means of promoting social justice in South Africa. She has also pioneered collaborations between universities and the CGSO to bridge the gap between theory and practice in consumer law.
Passionate about protecting vulnerable consumers, Queen uses her public profile to actively advocate for the rights of marginalised communities, particularly rural women.
Beyond her professional achievements, she is also a certified coach, dedicating her time to leadership development and community service through the Vhaswa Mentorship Foundation, where she mentors young people, particularly girls.

Ravi Pillay is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of global leadership experience across Africa, Europe and other emerging markets. He serves on the boards of the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO) and Food Forward South Africa (FFSA), contributing to consumer protection and food system resilience.
Ravi is also Co-Founder of the Food Safety Leadership Initiative (FSLI) now located at Wits Business school (WBS), alongside Prof Lucia Anelich, advancing food safety as a strategic leadership, research and policy priority.

He is also a faculty member at WBS, lecturing in strategy, stakeholder management and food systems leadership. Earlier in his career, he served as a board member and advisor to leadership at Nestlé.
His research work focuses on multi-stakeholder partnerships and systems leadership.
Ravi is also a strong advocate for women’s participation in leadership. He brings a unique perspective at the intersection of business, governance, and societal impact.

Cindy Jenks
Pick n Pay, South Africa
In January 2014, Cindy was appointed General Manager of the Technical Division at Pick n Pay. In this role, she is responsible for food safety across all stores and supplier compliance, as well as overseeing product specifications and quality for all Pick n Pay branded products. She also ensures safety and regulatory compliance of all products supplied to Pick n Pay.
In March 2025, Cindy joined the GFSI Steering Committee, an international body comprising senior food safety leaders from leading global retailers and manufacturers. The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) plays a critical role in setting global expectations for food safety systems, with many retailers requiring suppliers to meet GFSI-recognised standards.
In March 2026, Cindy was appointed Co-Chair for Food Safety at the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa.

Cindy obtained a National Diploma in Food Technology in 1990 from Technikon Witwatersrand, South Africa.
She joined Pick n Pay as a Quality Controller after qualifying but was soon promoted to Food Technologist in various categories including processed meats, fresh produce, poultry, groceries and special events.
Cindy was appointed as Technical Manager for the Produce Division, Johannesburg, Gauteng in 1996. Further she completed a Marketing Management Diploma from Damelin in 1997. Then promoted to Senior Buyer in the Produce Division – a position held for 3 years. In 2001, Cindy was further promoted to National Produce Technical Manager, managing a team of food technologists on a national level for the Produce Division.
In November 2004, Cindy was appointed National Technical Manager for Foods, managing the technical teams from all food divisions including Butchery, Bakery, Delicatessen, Produce and Corporate Brands. This position was short-lived, as Cindy was then moved back to the Corporate Brands Division in July 2005 as the General Manager.
In March 2006, Cindy was appointed as the Corporate Brands, General Manager.
In 2007 Pick n Pay embarked on the single biggest rebranding exercise in the history of South African retail. As the company evolved into the new and dynamic brand that we have come to know today, so too did the Housebrand products. This saw the launch of PnP, PnP No Name and a number of exciting new additions in terms of the Organic and Green environmentally friendly products. In October 2011 we launched the PnP Finest range, the premium brand in the three-tier programme.

Debbie is the Market Director for ProCert Southern Africa, where she supports the delivery and growth of credible food safety certification services across the region.
She has been performing third-party certification audits for more than 20 years and has real-life insight into the practical realities faced by certified organizations.
Her role as Market Director has allowed her to develop a strong understanding of certification body operations. She brings a balanced perspective on how food safety standards are interpreted, implemented, and assessed in practice.

Fahmeeda Khan
FSSC Foundation, South Africa
Fahmeeda is a Food safety management system and QHSE specialist with more than 25 years work experience in industry, lead auditing and certification.
She holds a Masters degree in Global Management and a National Diploma in Biotechnology.
Fahmeeda recently joined the FSSC Foundation as Technical Manager focusing on auditor competence, knowledge management and maintaining and developing the FSSC 22000 Scheme and the FSSC Development Program.

Rika Kemp
Rika Kemp Consulting, South Africa
Rika Kemp has more than 30 years’ experience as a food safety advisor, training facilitator and trouble shooter in the wider food industry.
Her career started at a Pork Abattoir where she quickly progressed to the Product Development Department that developed the “Like it lean” products amongst others. Rika’s strengths include making food safety principles simple by cutting the jargon and putting it in everyday terms and can thus effectively train food safety team members on GFSI benchmarked food safety standards and other food safety requirements.

She has a passion to train people including helping potential food safety auditors to get qualified up to lead auditors level and teaching the difficult to understand HACCP to all in such laymen terms that all can understand, and in Afrikaans vir die Noord Kaap.
Because of her knowledge and in depth experience she can identify food safety risks and finds solutions to persistent problems which can have a major impact on brand integrity. She has the ability to compile food safety managements systems and simplify HACCP studies so that they integrate with other business systems. She also trains senior management in the advantage of this integration.
Rika does product and process development verification studies based on science. Last but not least, as part of the passion for training, she mentors freshman and enhance skills of all involved in her daily work.
As part of her commitment to the Food Industry she also serves on committees to develop SANS standards and is appointed as the President Elect for the South African Association for Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST).

He is also a senior researcher at the Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance at the University of Cape Town, specializing in activism and civil society; a distinguished visitor at the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law, Georgetown University Law Center; and a visiting scholar at the Bonavero Institute for Human Rights, Oxford University.
He has written numerous articles on law, human rights, HIV/AIDS, health and literature and edited and written several books, including a book of poetry I Write What I Fight (2015) and a memoir, Get Up! Stand Up! Personal Journeys Towards Social Justice (2017).
In 2025 he founded the Justice and Activism Hub (JAH) and the Union Against Hunger.

He regularly participates in various international fora where the Republic is a signatory such as the World Trade Organization (WTO) agriculture technical committees; the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); the African Union (AU) agriculture committee; the Southern African Development Cooperation (SADC) agriculture stream, and the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).
He provided strategic direction and guidance during the crafting the Agriculture and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP).

She currently serves as the General Manager for Food and Associated Industries and the Regional Manager for the Western Cape Region at the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS).

In her leadership role, she drives food safety regulation, food quality assurance, and food production standards in South Africa. She possesses extensive expertise in trade laws relating to food regulations and represents South Africa at the Codex Alimentarius Commission. Prudence Moilwa

Prudence Moilwa joined the NCC in 2011 as the Divisional Head: Complaints and Investigations. Her extensive expertise in law, negotiation, and administrative justice has contributed significantly to the success of the NCC’s investigations. She has also played a key role in developing investigation strategies, policies, procedures, and guidelines relating to investigations and product safety recalls.
Ms. Moilwa has been pivotal in several major consumer protection interventions, including the successful recall and identification of listeriosis in processed meat products, the detection of meat adulteration in South Africa, and various other product recalls.

Belinda Makhafola

Ms Belinda Makhafola – National Director for Environmental Health. She worked as an Environmental Health Practitioner for 9 (nine) years in a local municipality before joining the National Department of Health in 2006 as an Assistant Director in Health Promotion, and then as a Deputy Director; Environmental Health until early 2024.
